Men vs Women Job Opportunities
Gender inequality in media content exists through both the under-representation and mis-representation of women. Men are far more likely to be visible as journalists, experts and subjects than women, and also to be portrayed in a way that values their opinions, experiences and professions.
Gender Inequality
We see issues of gender inequality in all aspects of life, and male domination in the media work field is very prominent. When you watch sports, It is always male speakers, and introducers because people think if you are watching a male sport it should be a male broadcasting because they might know more about the sport, or relate more, but that is not true. Women are just as capable of reading a script as men.
NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB
All of these sports categories on ESPN are male sports, and we rarely hear a woman's voice dictating the plays within the game or introducing players. It is always a woman at the end interviewing the players when they are in distress after a game and no longer focused, pushing the interviewer off. This almost gives a bad reputation to women in sports broadcasting because the players show no interest in talking to them, making them seem like a burden and only interested in asking about their emotions and not the statistics of the actual sports game.
